Everyone always thinks of financial education as the panacea to the “Underbanked Problem.” “Just teach them how things work,” they say. Of course, most financial literacy projects are well-intended nonsense for people who actually know a lot about financial services, but with a different set of needs and cultural norms than “we” have. So, anyway, I’m not a fan of most financial education I’ve seen.
But I love what the Sosa’s are doing in a very busy new blog called the Mango Grove. Announced with usual Sosa bravado, I was interested and skeptical. But with what is now becoming a consistent track record of true innovation, not just a one-off effort manifest in the dominant prepaid account super-star NetSpend, this little blog is a busy pipeline of pent up creative financial education cum-fun, media savvy, multi-media chit chat, filled with practical ideas and cool art. I totally love it. Best is that most days you don’t even need to read a word to get what they’re saying.
Total kodus for making an ongoing effort. How many “concept” blogs have you seen announced who post a couple times and it fizzles out? Of course everything comes to an end, but the Grove has been cooking up fun stuff with a clip that smells like genuine inspiration, a genuine voice and will. I really love it.
