Saw a little “infographic” in the Banker today, under the heading “Ignorance is Bliss,” produced by Javelin Research. CFSI’s Rachel Schneider quickly absolved me of the notion that it’s surprising people are paying less attention to their finances. “Who wants to track bad news?” I guess so, however, I would have expected the opposite given all the Suz Orman look-alikes and shows like Pawn Stars which all promote fiscal responsibility, even if indirectly.
What’s also interesting is that “finance tools offered by a website” – in other words, Mint.com and the whole PFM category – were only reported by 3% of people. Perhaps it’s much less of a category than it appeared. But honestly, who is this majority of people who report tracking their finances by hand? I’ve never met her.
